Meal kits are primarily designed to save time. But they’re also the variety that adds spice to life.
Variety Is Healthy
If you are cooking the same things over and over you will find yourself getting bored and getting drawn to takeaways or other junk. You will also be giving your body the same nutrients, over and over. A variety of meals with a variety of ingredients is so much better for your health.
Save Some Money
So where does the cost saving come in? Okay let's say you’re tired of bangers and mash and mince and mixed veg and you think it would be really great to try some Indian cuisine - a curry of some sort.
There are numerous types of spice involved in a nice curry. For each one you will pay about R24.00 a bottle, and then only use a teaspoon or two. And that’s not even mentioning the whole spices, the cinnamon bark, whole cloves etc and the jar of ginger and garlic. Ginger, garlic and spices are also packed with good nutrients but you don’t really feel like having all those half used bottles and jars staring at you every day.
Then there’s Asian food - an absolute delight and a whole new spectrum of nutrients to boot. Would you buy oyster sauce, fish sauce and soy sauce, all at about R40 a bottle for a once off meal that only uses a couple of tablespoons, if that, of each? Probably not.
Lose The Guilt
When you order a meal kit all those ingredients are provided in the exact amount you need. You don’t have to open your kitchen cupboard and feel guilty about loads of once-used ingredients. There’s no waste at all.
No Waste
Think of the veg that lies at the bottom of the fridge getting limp because you had to buy more than you needed. Unless you have hens in the backyard it’s going to end up in the bin.
Less Trips To The Shops
And then, of course, meal kits do save you from driving to the shops each day.
And The Verdict Is...
So we have come to the conclusion that, yes, meal kits can save you money, as has been the experience of one of our customers who has been ordering and keeping track of costs for several months.
Use Them When You Need Them
And, no, you don’t have to order for every meal, every week either. You can use meal kits to save time when you need to. You can use them to save money when you want to try something new but don’t want to buy large quantities of all the ingredients. And you can use them to add variety to your diet which is a healthy thing to do.
